On September 7, the inauguration ceremony of “Belt and Road” BeiDou Application International Training Center and the opening ceremony of 2021 “Belt and Road” International Training Course for BDS Technologies and Applications were held in Beijing. Cai Lanbo, former Chief Engineer of China Satellite Navigation Office, Palitha Kohona, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China, Xu Guanqun, Deputy Director of Department of International Affairs, China Association for Science and Technology, and Wu Haitao, Vice President of Aerospace Information Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences, were invited to attend the event and delivered speeches.
Cai Lanbo indicated in his speech that the focus of BDS had always been on building and developing with higher standards and more advanced concepts, and now was equipped with a comprehensive global service capability. Mr. Cai hoped that this event would help countries along the Belt and Road get to know the scientific and application values of BDS, promote wide exchanges in navigation technologies among scientists and technicians from different countries and enable China to promote international cooperation and exchanges in the field of BeiDou, as well as play an active role in promoting the applications of BDS in countries along the Belt and Road.
Kohona believed that China had made great progress and achievements in space science and technology research and applications, and had become a leading country in the field of satellite navigation and space science, and its related applications have also made great contributions. At present, China has established cooperation with many countries in the world in the field of space. Kohona firmly believed that the achievements made by China can be applied all over the world, and wished the Training Course a great success.
Wu Haitao expressed his welcome and gratitude to the participating support units, and indicated that “Belt and Road” BeiDou Application International Training Center was inaugurated today based on the 2021 China Association for Science and Technology Program of International Collaboration Platform for Science and Technology Organizations in Countries along the Belt and Road, and he especially thanked Department of Intentional Affairs, China Association for Science and Technology for its support for and trust in Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academic Exchange Center of China Satellite Navigation Office. The establishment of the Training Center is a new and useful exploration and practice of Academic Exchange Center of China Satellite Navigation Office in international training and cooperative research on satellite navigation technologies and applications, which will further promote training and talent cultivation in the applications of BDS-based navigation and positioning technologies overseas, help carry out international cooperation and exchanges related to BDS technologies and industry. The Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences will spare no effort to provide comprehensive support for the development of the Training Center and organize researchers and staff to complete the work. Mr. Wu hoped that the Training Center would establish a complete and standardized training system, improve the teaching and management level, exchange and cooperate for mutual benefits and win-win results, and become an important platform for BDS to deliver BDS technologies to countries along the Belt and Road and drive international exchanges and cooperation.
Xu Guanqun suggested that, as the main force to promote private foreign science and technology exchanges, China Association for Science and Technology attached great importance to scientific and technological cooperation and personnel exchanges with other countries in the world, in an effort to enhance mutual trust and promote the building of a scientific and technological community. In order to actively respond to the Belt and Road Initiative and effectively promote the “Belt and Road” science, technology and humanities exchanges to go deeper and more practical, China Association for Science and Technology launched the implementation of China Association for Science and Technology Program of International Collaboration Platform for Science and Technology Organizations in Countries along the Belt and Road in 2016. After nearly six years of operation, the Platform has supported 152 projects, created an important platform for international science and technology cooperation, built a bridge for people-to-people communication, understanding and tolerance, mutual learning and learning and cooperation and innovation, and jointly promoted exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries in the fields of science and technology, industry and economy. Mr. Xu hoped that BeiDou Application International Training Center would become one of the important international cooperation platforms in the field of satellite navigation in countries along the Belt and Road, and further promote applications of BDS in countries along the Belt and Road, bringing more convenience to the production and life of people from all over the world.
During the inauguration ceremony, Director Xu Guanqun and President Wu Haitao jointly inaugurated “Belt and Road” BeiDou Application International Training Center, which was witnessed by participating officials and experts.
In the next step, Academic Exchange Center of China Satellite Navigation Office will take the “Belt and Road” BeiDou Application International Training Center as the basis to promote friendly cooperation with satellite navigation groups or institutions in countries or regions along the Belt and Road and actively conduct science and technology personnel trainings and international conferences and exchanges.
