On May 28, 2021, the 12th China Satellite Navigation Conference BeiDou Aviation Application High-end Forum was successfully held in Nanchang. It was also held at the same time as the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the first year of the completion of the BDS-3 and the beginning of a new stage of application promotion. Nanchang, the starting point of the Red Revolution, this year’s annual conference was a rare industry event that brought together various experts and leaders of industry authorities in the field of BeiDou aviation applications.
The first session was chaired by Zhou Hongjian, Director of an Instiution of Air Force Academy. Zhou first expressed his gratitude to the invited experts, professors and other participants from all walks of life for their support of BeiDou aviation applications, and pointed out that aviation navigation should respond to the development of BeiDou navigation technology at the highest level and at the fastest speed to promote the rapid expansion of BeiDou aviation applications and effectively improve aviation navigation capabilities.
Mr. Yang Jian, Deputy Director of China Satellite Navigation Office, was invited to attend the Forum and delivered a speech. Director Yang pointed out that BDS had reached a world-class level after “three steps”, which had laid a solid foundation for the promotion of BeiDou applications. He hoped that the industry would focus on how to use BeiDou in aviation applications, set higher targets, speed up progress, improve quality, and help the national aviation industry enhance its domestic production capability and independent control ability, so as to help China's aviation industry reach a new level.
The morning open sessions focused on the development of aviation PNT technology and discussed the progress of research on GNSS technology in aviation, the frontier technology of BeiDou and the application of “BeiDou+” integrated technology in aviation, including BDS augmentation technology, BeiDou and communication integrated technology, and BeiDou anti-jamming technology. Professor Lu Mingquan from Tsinghua University was invited to introduce the progress and future development trend of BDSBAS signal quality monitoring; Vice President Zhou Yuxia from China Academy of Aerospace Standardization and Product Assurance introduced the standardization of airworthiness validation of BDS-based airborne navigation equipment; Professor Deng Zhongliang from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications introduced the background of the great development of unmanned logistics, unmanned delivery and other emerging application fields, and explored in depth the application effect and prospects of “BeiDou+5G” integrated technology in improving the spatio-temporal capability and control efficiency of slow and small flying targets in low altitude airspace. Jia Xiaolin from Xi’an Research Institute of Surveying and Mapping gave a detailed introduction of the performance monitoring and evaluation of BeiDou and SBAS, and explained in detail the monitoring and evaluation of BDS broadcast orbit accuracy, SISRE, space signal availability, space signal continuity etc. Cai Yi, Vice President of China North Industries Group Corporation Limited, introduced the application technology, application mode and effect of BDS-based high-precision serivces in the field of UAVs in response to the demand for precise attitude, trajectory and control of UAVs, combined with the high precision service capability of BDS GBAS, and explored the future development path of BeiDou in the field of UAVs. Director Zhang Shugang of National Time Service Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences introduced various time synchronization and transfer technologies and performances, the idea of systematic development of China's timing system and the current construction situation, and looked forward to the time transfer comparison technology development trend, the national ground-space integrated timing system, and the space-air-ground time and frequency communication system. Associate Professor Gong Wenfei of Beijing Institute of Technology conducted research on the key technologies of fast real-time multibeam anti-jamming for signal distortion suppression, strongly robust high-precision positioning receiver for signal distortion suppression based on the need for high accuracy positioning in environments with interference and initially verified the technical performance in engineering applications. Researcher Yang Renfu from Beijing Academy of Quantum Information Sciences introduced the current development of satellite atomic gyroscopes and other sensor technologies, proposed the plan for implementation of airborne miniature atomic clocks and developed a prototype, which realized the application of airborne high stability miniature atomic clocks. Dr. Tu Chuanliang from Changsha Haige BeiDou Information Technology Co., Ltd proposed the development of BDS high-precision products, short message communication products and chip-based multi-mode combined terminal products, taking into account the research and development of the national BDS-3 chips and the demand for satellite navigation in civil aviation applications.
During the Forum, the audience actively asked questions and the experts answered those questions seriously, with lively discussions among participants. The Forum came to an end with a burst of applause, which provided diverse and effective ideas and practical measures for the development of BeiDou applications in aviation navigation.
