On May 27, 2021, during the 12th China Satellite Navigation Conference, the “BeiDou+Manned Spaceflight High-End Forum was held in Primus Hotel Nanchang International Expo City. The Forum was chaired by Academician Gu Yidong from Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chief Designer Li Zuhong and Chief Designer Zhang Bainan from China Academy of Space Technology, Director Guo Shuren from China Satellite Navigation Engineering Center, Vice President Lin Baojun from Shanghai Institute of Microsatellite Innovation of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Deputy General Manager Yue Fuzhan from Space Star Technology Co., Ltd. The forum aims to dig deeper and give full play to the integration advantages of major aerospace engineering projects to help China build a strong aerospace nation. The expert officials attending this high-end forum include Ran Chengqi, Director of China Satellite Navigation Office, Wang Zhonggui, Deputy Chief Designer of Manned Space Engineering, Song Jinze, Deputy Director of Application and Development Department of China Manned Space Engineering Office, and many experts and scholars in the field of BeiDou and manned spaceflight. The Forum attracted more than 100 industry experts and representatives for exchanges and discussions.
The Forum kicked off with the speeches delivered by Director Ran Chengqi and Chief Designer Wang Zhonggui. Director Ran Chengqi said in his speech that in the past year, with the official completion and opening of the BDS-3 and the launch of the Tianhe core module of China’s space station, BDS and manned spaceflight had become more and more closely connected and need to support each other and develop together. The coming year is a critical period for the manned space station mission, and Director Ran hoped that this “BeiDou + Manned Spaceflight” High-end Forum would discuss relevant issues and help BDS better support the manned space mission, and wished China's space station construction mission a complete success.

In his speech, Chief Designer Wang Zhonggui pointed out that manned spaceflight and BDS were two major landmark projects for building a strong spaceflight nation in China, and BDS provided important support in various tasks of manned spaceflight projects. The China’s space station will provide a platform for the verification and application of new in-orbit technologies for BDS. Chie Designer Wang looked forward to the integration and innovative development of manned spaceflight and BDS in the future Earth-Moon space , so as to make new and greater contributions to the building of a strong spaceflight nation together!

The first part of the Forum focused on the service capability and application prospects of BDS in space station missions. Yang Hui, Commander-in-chief and Chief Designer of BDS-2 satellites, gave a presentation entitled “GNSS-SSV Connotation, Capability and Development”, discussing the service capability and development prospects of the space service volume (SSV) of GNSS. Researcher Wang Bo from Beijing Institute of Tracking and Telecommunications Technology discussed the concept of “BDS- supported space measurement and control services” with the participating experts. Researcher Wang Wenbin from Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization of Chinese Academy of Sciences gave a presentation entitled “Precise Orbit Determination of Space Station based on GNSS Measurement”, introducing the application of GNSS measurement technology in the integrated precise orbit determination calculation of space station and Tiangong-2.

The second part of the Forum focused on the empowerment of BDS by the space station, the expansion of the applications of the BDS and the research on navigation technology for future manned space missions. Dr. Fan Guangteng from National Defense Science and Technology Innovation Research Institute, Academy of Military Sciences of PLA China analyzed the development trend of intelligent satellites and multifunctional integration. In addition, many experts and scholars, such as Hou Zhendong from China Academy of Space Technology, Shu Leizheng, Associate Researcher from Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Li Min, Changjiang Young Scholar from Wuhan University, focused on the topics of “Navigation Mode Vision for Manned Lunar Exploration Mission”, “Multi-antenna Differential GNSS Technology to Help Rendezvous and Docking with Space Station”, “Monitoring and Evaluation of BDS based on LEO Platform”, They also analyzed and discussed hot issues such as manned lunar exploration mission, space station construction, and monitoring and evaluation of LEO satellites.

The third part of the Forum focused on the development of the next-generation BDS and future navigation technologies. Researcher Lv Baolong from Innovation Academy for Precision Measurement Science and Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences made a wonderful presentation entitled “Space Station Ytterbium Atomic Optical Clock Planning”, which provides key technical support for global frequency release and relativistic geodesy. Prof. Shen Wenbin, a distinguished scholar of Wuhan University, elaborated on the “Global Gravity Position Precision Measurement Plan”, proposing laser time and signal comparison and triple frequency combination method to develop new methods for determining gravity position. In the end, Dong Qijia from Space Star Technology Co., Ltd shared his experience in “BDS Application Practices in Space Rendezvous and Docking” with the expert representatives present.
