[H04 Forum] The First Beidou+ Education Forum was Successfully Held
On May 28, the “Beidou+Education High-End Forum” was held in Primus Hotel Nanchang International Expo City during the 12th China Satellite Navigation Conference. The Forum was chaired by Lin Hui, Dean of School of Geography and Environment of Jiangxi Normal University, Director Xin Bing of Youth Technology Center of China Association for Science and Technology, Professor Guo Junjing of Tsinghua University, Professor Chen Xiuwan of Peking University, and Director Weng Jingnong of BeiDou International Exchange Training Center. The Forum was also attended by Yang Jian, Deputy Director of China Satellite Navigation Office, Cao Chong, Researcher of the 22nd Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, Jiang Jingyi, Director of Science Popularization Activity Division of Youth Technology Center of China Association for Science and Technology, Hao Weina, Director of Academic Exchange Center of China Satellite Navigation Office, and Lu Yun, Senior Engineer of Beijing Institute of Tracking and Telecommunications Technology. The Forum invited and attracted more than 120 representatives of government, industry, academia, research and application, including industry experts, scholars, science and technology teachers and entrepreneurs to explore the innovative mode of integration of BeiDou and education!
The Beidou+Education High-End Forum includs three invited presentations, five presentations on BeiDou science popularization education in primary and secondary schools, four presentations on professional education, and four presentations on the integration of industry and education, a total of 16 presentations. The presentations delivered are wonderful open talks about BeiDou.
The “Opening Ceremony” and “invited presentation” session were chaired by Dean Lin Hui. Deputy Director Yang Jian delivered the opening speech, indicating that the official launch of China's BDS-3 in July last year had greatly encouraged the application of Beidou in various industries across the country. How to promote the integration of “BeiDou+Education”? In the early stages of planning, the focus was on adapting to the development of the times and the application in Jiangxi. Last year, the “Smart Education” proposed in the Outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan and 2035 Vision for National Economic and Social Development of the People's Republic of China (Part V), “Accelerating Digital Development and Building Digital China”, fits well with BeiDou.. Mr. Yang expressed his hope that through our efforts, the first response of our next generation when they hear about satellite navigation would be “BeiDou”! Make everyone trust BeiDou and be proud of it!
Afterwards, the leaders and experts awarded licences to representatives of the first batch of 28 BeiDou science popularization bases in 2021 - Beijing Hujialou Central Primary School in Chaoyang District, Jinan No. 1 Middle School in Shandong Province, Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Beijing Joy Avenue Technology Development Co., Ltd.
Prof. Chen Xiuwan, Prof. Guo Jingjun and Prof. Weng Jingnong were invited to give presentations during the “invited presentation” session. Prof. Chen Xiuwan delivered a presentation entitled “Exploring the Innovation Platform of Industry-education Integration of BeiDou Future Technology Based on the Coordination of Classes and Competitions”, indicating that the importance of digital development and the construction of digital economy was highlighted in the 14th Five-Year Plan that had just been introduced. Facing the challenges of the digital era, we have to do three things, which are science-curriculum collaboration, class-competition coordination and industry-education integration. Prof. Guo Jingjun exchanged views and discussed about the cooperation between enterprises and schools to establish and improve the talent training system in the BeiDou industry. Prof. Weng Jingnong gave a presentation entitled “Practice and Thinking of Cultivating International Talents for Overseas Applications of BeiDou”, sharing the model of cultivation of international talents for Beidou in Beidou International Exchange Training Center in the past ten years.
The “BeiDou science popularization education in primary and secondary schools” session was chaired by Director Jiang Jingyi. First of Lu Yun, Senior Engineer, shared his initial practice and thoughts on Beidou science popularization from three aspects: what to popularize about Beidou, how to popularize it, and the need to insist on science popularization. After that, a number of experts, scholars and teachers, including Zhong Zhibing, Executive Director and Deputy Secretary-general of Beijing Sci-Tech Education Promotion Association, Yang Yuetong from Hengshui Middle School in Hebei Province, Zhang Wei, Vice Principal of Kaiyuan No. 1 Middle School in Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province and Wan Xinhua, Teacher of No.1 Middle School Affiliated to Central China Normal University and President of Hubei Youth Innovation and Invention Promotion Association, deliverd presentations and exchanged views on BeiDou-based youth science and technology education, and analyzed and gave an outlook on the issues of innovation and practices of BeiDou science popularization education in primary and secondary schools, and the BeiDou science and technology education system.
The “BeiDou professional education” was chaired by Director Weng Jingnong. Professor Gao Chengfa from Southeast University made a wonderful presentation entitled “Innovative Practice of BeiDou Navigation and Positioning Research-based Curriculum Teaching Model”, suggesting that the project team had carried out three aspects of educational reform in theoretical innovation, independent study and experimental practice and achieved good results. Luo Jin, Executive Dean of School of Geography and Environment of Jiangxi Normal University, elaborated on “Building the Talent Chain for the BeiDou Industry in Jiangxi”, proposing the concept of training BeiDou talents from elementary school to graduate school, and sharing the corresponding exploration and practice of BeiDou talents training in Jiangxi Normal University. Then, Professor Lu Tieding from East China University of Technology shared with the audience the “talent training model for GNSS/BeiDou Talents”. In the end Zhang Zhetao from School of Earth Science and Engineering of Hohai University made a presentation and proposed to cultivate high-level talents of GNSS for water conservancy and hydropower engineering through “integration of industry and education + integration of science and education”, with the aim of improving students' engineering literacy, practical ability and innovative spirit.
The roundtable discussion on “industry-education integration” was chaired by Prof. Chen Xiuwan. Researcher Cao Chong, Assistant to President Jiang Junyi of Guangzhou Hi-Target Navigation Tech, Hu Bin, Director of Changsha Beidou Industrial Safety Technology Research Institute, and Principal Wang Chen of Shaoxing No.1 Middle School were invited to make presentations, analyzing and discussing the current situation, significance and practice of the innovative development of BeiDou industry-education integration, respectively. Researcher Cao Chong proposed that the integration of industry and education should realize the integration of government-industry-business-society and the coordination of industry-innovation-education-talent-management-value chains, which was unanimously agreed. Then, based on the theme of this year’s CSNC and the one-day course of study, the participants had in-depth exchanges and discussions.
In the end, Prof. Lin Hui gave a closing speech with thanks by expressing his gratitude, joy and expectations. Specifically, he expressed his gratitude for the participation of experts, scholars and friends from all walks of life; his joy that education has attracted the attention of the government, society, universities and secondary schools, and that with his missions and tasks, he hoped to work together with all stakeholders. He also expressed his expectation that the three aspects discussed at the Forum would be further promoted, that the current shortcomings of BeiDou+education would be compensated for, and that the cause of “BeiDou+education” would develop in a better way.
